Women Organized Against Rape Honors Four Philadelphians

Philadelphia, PA – Women Organized Against Rape (WOAR) will hold its annual Bridge of Courage Awards Ceremony and Reception at the Park Avenue Banquet Hall at 4942 Parkside Avenue on Thursday, September 24th at 5:30 pm. This event is held annually to honor individuals who have supported WOAR’s mission of healing through support, education, and advocacy.
This year’s awardees are Dr. Kathleen M. Brown from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Nursing; Councilman William K. Greenlee of the 15th Ward; Ralph J. Riviello, MD, FACEP – Drexel University College of Medicine; and Dr. Alyn E. Waller, Senior Pastor at Enon Tabernacle Baptist Church. These individuals have been advocates in creating and implementing programs to educate community members and serve victims of sexual assault. The funds from this event will support Philadelphia’s rape crisis and advocacy center.
The Bridge of Courage event will include an awards ceremony and a dance performance by ArcheDream for Humankind, a dance and theater troupe. There will also be presentations related to WOAR’s many programs, as well as information informing attendees about actions Philadelphia leaders are taking to combat sexual violence.

Women Organized Against Rape (WOAR) was founded in Philadelphia in 1971 as the first rape crisis center in the United States. WOAR is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing sexual violence in our society. WOAR works to educate diverse communities on the prevention of sexual violence and empower survivors of sexual assault from all racial and cultural backgrounds. WOAR is committed to serve the needs of survivors and to advocate on their behalf, as well as to provide information to the community.
