“Limerick Generating Station has been a friend to Lower Pottsgrove Township for many years and their continuing support of our summer concert series is a testament to their commitment to the local community,” said Township Manager Rod Hawthorne.

Hosted by Blessed Teresa of Calcutta Education Center during the week of August 2-6 it will feature 5 exciting classes each day that focus on science, technology, engineering, math (STEM), woven into purposeful hands-on activities that harness the participants’ innate creativity to solve real-world challenges.

America is currently facing a critical talent gap in the STEM subjects, which are recognized as the international language of innovation.  Our country’s economic and productive future depends on how well we educate our children and youth. Presented in partnership with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the nationally-acclaimed Camp Invention program has been inspiring the minds of children for over 20 years.   It helps cultivate the ideas critical to STEM by encouraging exploration and curiosity during everyday activities so children understand that science is everywhere – fostering “whole system” thinkers.  Working together, children learn vital 21st century life skills such as teamwork, creative problem-solving and critical thinking skills while having lots of fun.

This year, in the new Power’d™ module, children will learn about alternative energy sources and create a motorized pet.   In other new curriculum, children will save a virtual world and become entrepreneurs in the avatar marketplace, discover tessellations and fractals, and explore the connections between ancient cultures and the sports we play today.  In the signature I Can Invent III™ unit, children will use real tools to take apart discarded household appliances and create fantasy inventions.  Older children will use the pieces and parts to build Rube Goldberg machines that create a “mini-explosion”.

Since its inception in 1990, the Camp Invention program has grown to include nearly 1,500 sites in 49 states.  In 2009, more than 65,000 children participated nationwide.  “We’re getting to the root of innovation by providing motivation to learn, create, and excel – particularly in the critical areas of math and science,” said Michael J. Oister, President of Invent Now Kids.

We were seated fairly quickly at a nice table in the back of the restaurant.  Our server Kate was very attentive and pleasant.  She was familiar with the menu and vast beer selection.

The food is prepared to order but came in a reasonable amount of time.  While we waited for our entrees, we were given bread and butter.  The bread is made on the premises from the leftover hops used in the brewing process.  It was very good!

Three of us ordered the fish and chips.  Two others ordered the soup of the day, along with perogies and tempura shrimp.

The fish and chips were plentiful and delicious.  Three generous pieces of moist and flakey Cod were accompanied by a mountain of fries.  Nothing was greasy!  No old oil taste!  The fries were mildly seasoned for enhanced flavor.  The fish was batter dipped and tasty.

The soup of the day was sweet potato.  I was offered a taste and I must say it was excellent.  Again a generous “cup” of soup was served equaling a nice sized mug.  One of my friends had considered licking the bowl, but refrained.

The three nice sized perogies were accompanied by salad.  The three jumbo tempura shrimp came with some unusual coleslaw.  Again, they were gobbled up with delight!  The perogies and tempura shrimp are appetizers, not entrees.

We only tried two desserts since everyone wasn’t in the mood or didn’t have room.  I ordered the homemade Tiramisu which scored a 10!  Nice size piece and reasonable price for dessert.  Another friend ordered the homemade doughnuts which were coated with cinnamon sugar right out of the fryer and came with vanilla ice cream and peaches. That was described as “a little bit of heaven.”

One person also had a beer which they thoroughly enjoyed.  Samples are provided to aid in decision making.

Our bill came to not quite $90.00 for five people to have dinner which I felt was very reasonable based on the atmosphere, food quality, food quantity and service.

I highly recommend this restaurant based on our experience.  The Craft Ale House offers a nice variety on their menu and if you enjoy beer, they have over 300 varieties!!

Residents near the plant may hear a steady three-minute tone.

The test is performed on the first Monday of each month as part of Exelon Nuclear’s comprehensive Emergency Preparedness program. The warning sirens are one of several methods used by county emergency management authorities to provide notification of emergencies. Individual counties may activate the sirens to warn the surrounding community of events such as fires, floods, tornados, hazardous material releases, or nuclear energy plant events.

The sirens are not a signal to evacuate. In an actual emergency, residents should tune to one of the county Emergency Alert System radio or television stations for further information. Should a siren fail to activate, local police and firefighters would alert residents using mobile public address systems or door-to-door notifications.

Residents should refer to the “emergency” section of their telephone books for further emergency response information. Additional information on emergency preparedness is also available at the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency web site, www.pema.state.pa.us. Limerick Generating Station is located approximately 30 miles northwest of Philadelphia. The plant produces approximately 2,200 net megawatts of electricity per hour, enough to power approximately two million homes.
