Pa Virtual Charter School Recognized as Top Student Support Services Program
The Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School today received the 2010 Award of Excellence in Student Services from the Pennsylvania Association of Pupil Services Administrators, in coordination with Pennsylvania Department of Education at the Fifth Annual Student Services Symposium.
“The Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School has developed and implemented exemplary programs that support its students and the entire family in a school setting that serves as a model of success for any school in Pennsylvania and the country,” said Robert Cormany, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Association of Pupil Services Administrators at the Fifth Annual Student Services Symposium sponsored by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Center for Schools and Communities.
In the inaugural presentation of the award, the Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School and the Great Valley School District were the only two schools in the state to be recognized by PAPSA as providing best practices in student services.
“We are honored to receive recognition for the excellence we have demonstrated in providing academic and social development support services for our students and families,” said Dr. Adrienne Scurry Marinnie, PAVCS Dean of Family and Student Support. “A student’s full social development is a key component of our unique Diamond Model Partnership where a parent partners with a teacher, family support coordinator and the acclaimed K12 inc. curriculum for a complete education in a safe home based environment.”
At the conference, Dr. Scurry offered insight and shared strategies implemented at the Pennsylvania Virtual Charter School in creating and developing the Family Support Department. The PAVCS Family Support Department is a comprehensive program offering a full-complement of support services including our one-of-a-kind Family Support Coordinator program, full K-12 Guidance, Pupil Health, Title One, Face-to-Face Hands on Learning Support, Support and Enrichment for High Achievers and Co-curricular Learning.
