trafficThe Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced lane restrictions are scheduled on Route 29 between Germantown Pike and Main Street in Collegeville Borough and Lower Providence Township, Montgomery County, on Tuesday through Friday (October 6-9) from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for cross walk and ADA ramp installation.

The work is part of PennDOT’s project to realign and widen First Avenue (Route 29) at Main Street to accommodate longer turn lanes; widen Main Street between First Avenue (Route 29) and Second Avenue (Route 29) to add turn lanes; and widen Second Avenue (Route 29) at Main Street for additional turn lanes. The Route 29 and Main Street junction is currently two T-intersections that are offset by 500 feet.

In addition, the lane configuration on the Perkiomen Bridge and at the intersection of Germantown Pike and Ridge Pike is being revised to allow for new turn lanes. Five traffic signals are also being replaced and interconnected along Route 29 to improve traffic flow and provide for better emergency responsiveness.
In addition, streetscape amenities are being installed along Main Street at First Avenue (Route 29), including new street lights, trees, and decorative cross walks.

Road-Con, Inc., of West Chester is the general contractor on the $3,538,747 project that is financed with 80 percent federal and 20 percent state funds. The work is expected to finish by October 30, 2009.
PennDOT reminds motorists they can log on to 511pa.com or call 511 from any phone to check traffic conditions on major highways before heading out.
