Devon Prep’s Theatre Program will present four performances of Thornton Wilder’s The Matchmaker next weekend in the school’s athletic facility/auditorium.
Over 30 young men and women from Devon Prep, Villa Maria, Notre Dame and Sacred Heart Academies as well as Archbishop Carroll, Conestoga and Downingtown West High Schools will participate in this production.
The Matchmaker, the tale of a matchmaker who desires the man she’s supposed to be pairing with another woman, was first performed in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1954 followed immediately by a London production. The first U.S. production opened the following year at the Locust Street Theater in Philadelphia.
Two months later the show opened on Broadway directed by the renowned Tyrone Guthrie and featuring major American actors Ruth Gordon, Arthur Hill, and a very young Robert Morse. The play later became the foundation for the book for the well-loved musical Hello Dolly!
Devon Prep’s production is directed by Mr. Carl Gedik. Performance times are: Friday, Oct. 30 at 7 PM, Saturday, Oct. 31 at 12 noon and 4 PM and Sunday, Nov. 1 at 2 PM.
Tickets are available at the door only. Ticket prices are: $10 for adults and $5 for students. For more information call Devon Prep at 610-688-7337 or visit www.devonprep.com.
